Resilience in Global Food Systems: A Multilevel Dialogue
A joint Meeting of the “CREATE Expert Council”, with the CREATE post-docs
and doctorate students, and the “Prague Group”, convened by the Centre for
Religion, Human Values, and International Relations, Dublin City University
Pontifical University of St Thomas (Angelicum), Rome,
July 4 - July 7 2023
Global Food Security at IFAD on July 5, 2023
Meeting Concept
The goal of our meeting is to continue a multilevel, multi-stakeholder process started last October in response to our growing shared awareness of food insecurity. We will reflect on detailed studies undertaken in 5 key areas and on possible policy responses presented in a draft unifying report. Effective climate action and reimagined agricultural systems will entail the sustained coordination of actors across multiple domains. Pope Francis in his message on World Food Day in 2021 emphasised the “need for concerted action” and “innovative solutions” to overcome hunger and stated that “we must encourage active participation in change at all levels and reorganize food systems as a whole.” CREATE, a group of experts in Catholic Social Thought from Central and Eastern Europe, will meet for a further day of deliberations at the end of the joint meeting, focused on papers to be put together in a “symposium” for The Journal of Moral Theology; ideally, the symposium will be enriched by the unifying report and associated papers.
